Discover Key West

Dining in Key West

Key West dining is one of the great pleasures of time spent on the island, and this page reflects how I actually eat here. I have a deep appreciation for fine dining—thoughtful kitchens, polished service, and rooms where the details matter—but I’m just as drawn to the more casual, distinctive restaurants that feel rooted in place.

It isn’t always white linen, and it doesn’t need to be. What matters is authenticity, care, and a sense of ease—the kind of places that are genuinely pleasant to spend time in. The restaurants on Luke’s List reflect that balance, from refined evenings out to relaxed meals that feel unmistakably Key West.

When making a reservation, you’re always welcome to mention Luke’s List.

Quick Breakfast

Cuban Coffee Queen

A Key West institution for Cuban-style coffee done right. The menu centers on strong cafecito, café con leche, and cortaditos, paired with quick breakfast items like Cuban toast, breakfast sandwiches, and light pastries. Locations are compact and bustling, designed for quick stops rather than lingering, though some offer limited outdoor seating. It’s a favorite among locals heading to work and visitors needing a reliable caffeine jolt before exploring Old Town.

Sunrise Special - 1/2 an egg sandwich and a cafe con leche. They have great smoothies as well for those needing a little recovery from the night before, or to start the day in a healthy way

Keys Coffee

A relaxed neighborhood coffee shop known for well-prepared espresso drinks and a calm, unpretentious atmosphere. The menu includes classic coffeehouse staples alongside simple breakfast items that are easy to enjoy on the go or at a small table. Seating is casual, with a mix of indoor spots and sidewalk seating depending on the day. It’s an easy place to start the morning without the rush of more tourist-heavy cafés.

Avocado toast and the coconut breve (lightly sweet coconut milk latte)

If the little table out front on the sidewalk is available, claim it for some great people watching while you dine.

Glazed Donuts

A colorful donut shop turning out fresh-made donuts daily, with flavors that range from traditional to playful—think key lime pie, bourbon bacon, and seasonal specials. The vibe is bright and upbeat, with limited seating that encourages quick visits rather than long stays. It’s best for a grab-and-go breakfast or a mid-morning treat while walking Duval or Eaton Street.

Bring amix of these craft donuts back for the group to share. My go to for a single donut is the maple bacon one. The Red Buoy Coffee is roasted in house, and is one of the best down here. If you are looking for coffee for you where you are staying, definitely consider taking home a bag.

Breakfast / Brunch

Blue Heaven

One of Key West’s most iconic breakfast spots, set in a breezy courtyard that feels like old island Key West. The menu leans toward Caribbean-influenced breakfast and lunch dishes, including banana pancakes, lobster benedict, and fresh seafood. Roosters often wander the grounds, adding to the laid-back charm. Seating is primarily outdoors, shaded by trees, making it a memorable and leisurely place to linger over a late breakfast or early lunch.

*There is often a wait of 30+ minutes, leave your name and phone number with the host and then head across the street to Andy's Cabana for a mimosa or bloody while you wait.

I usually order Richard's Very Good pancakes. I very specifically order one pancake pecan and the other banana. If I’m not doing pancakes, I go for the bacon, lobster, and tomato benedict and add avocado.

La Grignote

French bakery and café offering a quieter, more European approach to breakfast. The menu centers on pastries, croissants, and quiches, paired with straightforward coffee drinks meant to be enjoyed slowly. Seating spans indoors, a small patio, and sidewalk tables along Duval Street, making it an easy place to linger, people-watch, and ease into the day with a pastry and coffee.

Daily quiche, honey cake, and the mushroom coffee are my usual go-tos. If Denis or Katie are in, please tell them hello for me — and let them know you were recommended by Luke’s List.

Sarabeth's Key West

Classic choice for elevated breakfast and brunch favorites. The menu is familiar but well done, with a wide range of mimosa flavors that make it an easy pick for a relaxed day brunch. Seating is split between a shaded patio and a bright, airy interior, and the small staff gives the place a welcoming, family-run feel.

Lemon-ricotta pancakes or the Goldie Lox omelet in the morning, always with a mimosa (they do fun flavors). For dinner, I never skip the tomato soup. The lightly fried goat cheese is a great start, and honestly the entrées are all comforting and hard to choose between.

Azur at the Eden House

Mediterranean-influenced dining in a calm, understated setting. The menu spans breakfast through dinner, with lighter, well-balanced dishes that focus on freshness rather than excess. Located beside the Eden House Hotel on a notable downtown street , the dining area is relaxed and unfussy, but stylish with both indoor booth seating and outdoor tables in a garden style courtyard. It’s a good option for a quieter meal away from the Duval Street crowds.

Any of the frittatas, though I usually indulge in the carbonara. For dinner, the whole branzino, their gnocchi, and the pulpo small plate are all standouts. I still remember having one of the best pecan pies I’ve ever had, served with cardamom ice cream.

Moondog Cafe

Lively, always-busy favorite especially known for breakfast, with a solid menu for lunch and dinner.  The menu leans into classic breakfast comfort—benedicts, omelets, and indulgent standouts like the Elvis banana bread French toast—done with care and quality, often vegan and organic ingredients. The pastry case alone is worth the stop, and it’s an easy place to grab something to bring back for later. Seating includes an outdoor porch along a main street, as well as indoor tables and bar seating, so you can choose your pace and view.

The shakshuka—eggs baked in a spicy Mediterranean tomato sauce—when I’m feeling healthy. Otherwise, I usually go for one of the benedicts or the Elvis French toast, with homemade peanut butter and bananas and finished with a bourbon maple syrup.

Refined / Casual

Dorada at the Casa marina

Oceanfront dining set within the historic Casa Marina resort. The menu is coastal and approachable, featuring seafood-forward dishes alongside classic resort fare. Seating includes a polished outdoor dining room and bar with views of the water. It works well for everything from a casual lunch to a sunset dinner, especially for guests staying nearby or seeking a beachfront setting.

Lunch at Casa Marina is all about the beach resort vibe. I usually go for the Dorada salad. Pro tip: from 4–5pm they run a bar bites menu—don’t miss the XL shrimp cocktail. If my partner Robi (Robbie) happens to be on the floor, feel free to ask for him—he’ll be happy to take care of you and say hello.

Christopher's at La te da

Located inside the La Te Da guesthouse, this restaurant offers refined dining with an elegant, low-key atmosphere. The menu emphasizes well-prepared plates and classic flavors rather than trends. Seating is available indoors and in a small courtyard, making it suitable for a relaxed yet polished evening. It’s also known for its cabaret performances hosted on property, the famous Duval street porch bar, and the piano bar with lively performances nightly at 8:30pm.

Sit at the bar for lunch and get to know the bartenders over the blackened yellowtail snapper Reuben or the La Te Da wedge salad while watching the passersby on Duval Street. In the evening, the homemade pastas and Christopher’s crab cakes are standouts—honestly, it’s hard to go wrong.

Salute! on the beach

A casual beachfront restaurant serving approachable food and drinks directly on Higgs Beach. The menu focuses on fresh, easygoing dishes—salads, sandwiches, seafood, and cocktails—ideal for lunch or a relaxed dinner. Seating is outdoors with views of the ocean, often accompanied by a steady breeze. Shoes are optional, and the mood is distinctly laid-back.

The mussels bianco, local yellowtail snapper, or the grouper cakes are all solid choices. Sit out on the patio and enjoy the laid-back ocean view—the perfect moment to slow down and remember you’re on vacation.

The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, with indoor seating that feels social and welcoming. It’s a reliable choice for lunch or a casual dinner that still feels considered.

I’ve genuinely enjoyed everything I’ve ordered here. For lunch, the Square Grouper seafood stew (half portion) and the filet mignon sliders are standouts. For dinner, don’t miss the tamarind garlic duck confit.

Miso Happy

A stylish yet approachable restaurant combining sushi and Thai dishes. The menu offers a wide range of options, from rolls and sashimi to curries and noodle dishes. The dining room has a modern, neighborhood feel, and seating is comfortable for both quick meals and longer dinners. It’s a good option for groups with varied tastes.

I always order the Love Key West lobster tempura roll, the papaya salad, any of the curries, and of course Phen’s famous crab rangoons. You can also sit next door at the sister spot, Souper Happy, for traditional pho bowls—both menus are available at either location.

Lola's Bistro

A cozy, chef-driven bistro tucked into a residential neighborhood. The dining room is intimate, with a handful of tables arranged around the chef’s open kitchen—essentially a range and island with no walls between cooking and service. Tea lights climb the wooden plank walls, giving the space a warm, slightly dreamy elegance. The menu focuses on classic bistro dishes prepared with care, and the BYOB policy adds to its neighborhood charm. Seating is limited and reservations are required, with the later seating often being the best experience. Cash only. The atmosphere is personal, relaxed, and ideal for a quiet, unrushed dinner.

The menu changes nightly, but when they’re available, the scallops are the best I’ve ever had. Honestly, I’ve never had anything here from the chef that wasn’t wonderful. Stop at Uva wine or Grand Vin wine shop in advance and ask them to help you with a recommendation.

The Red Shoe island bistro

Island-inspired cooking that balances spice, freshness, and comfort, with a menu that leans into global influences and Caribbean and Asian notes. The dining room is intimate and lively, reflecting its strong local following. It’s best suited for dinner and rewards a bit of curiosity. The vibe is unmistakably ’80s —unpretentious, well executed, and very much its own thing.

The shrimp toast and deviled eggs with scallops are a great way to start. I usually rotate between the yellowtail snapper, the shrimp with chili sauce over risotto, or the beef stroganoff. The key lime pie is humble but perfectly balanced. Please let the host know you’re a guest of Luke’s List and tell them I said hello.

The Little Pearl

A reservation-only restaurant offering seasonal tasting menus in a quiet, refined setting. The experience is intimate, with a focus on carefully paced courses and thoughtful presentations. Seating is limited, and the atmosphere encourages a slow, deliberate evening centered on the food.

This is a rotating tasting-menu-only format, so come ready for a unique selection that reflects a passionate kitchen. It’s an excellent choice for anyone with an adventurous culinary spirit.

915 (nine-one-five)

A stylish New American restaurant known for creative cocktails and an energetic dining room. The menu is modern and playful, with shareable plates and bold flavors. Seating includes an indoor dining space, popular Duval street porch and patio, and bar area that stays lively into the evening. It’s a popular choice for social dinners and celebratory nights out.

I’ve enjoyed everything here—from the beet salad and raw bar to the Mongolian ribs. The she-crab ravioli with sherry cream sauce is outstanding, and the filet au poivre is my favorite. You can also meet them upstairs at PointFive for a more casual lounge experience with the same menu.

Atlas Izakaya

A Japanese-inspired izakaya offering small plates, skewers, and thoughtfully prepared dishes meant for sharing. The atmosphere is laid-back and social, with seating that encourages a casual, communal dining style. It’s well-suited for diners who enjoy trying multiple dishes over the course of an evening.

This is the kind of place with so many small plates—each one different—that it’s almost impossible to pick just a few highlights. My honest suggestion is to order across a few categories, then go back for whatever you’re still thinking about.

Santiago's bodega

A lively tapas restaurant ideal for sharing plates, wine, and cocktails. The menu features a wide variety of small dishes, allowing guests to sample broadly. Seating includes indoor dining and outdoor tables, and the energy is consistently upbeat. It works well for groups and relaxed, social evenings.

I always order the filet, but without the blue cheese (personal preference). The petite rack of lamb is the one I usually waffle on and then always cave in to—and love. For a bit of spectacle, order the saganaki: halloumi cheese flambéed tableside with brandy. As a tapas restaurant, this is all about variety and sharing.

Fine Dining

Cafe Marquesa

One of Key West’s most respected fine-dining rooms, known for polished service and carefully composed dishes. The menu reflects classic fine-dining techniques with seasonal influences. The dining room is elegant without feeling stiff, making it appropriate for special occasions or guests who appreciate a traditional fine-dining experience.

If I’m on the floor when you join us, I’d be honored to take care of you personally—please note that you’re a guest of Luke’s List in your reservation. One of the most memorable meals on the island is the nightly tasting menu, which highlights the best of the current offerings in a thoughtful progression. Wine pairings are optional, and the experience often begins with an optional caviar service for a beautifully decadent start. Otherwise, the ala carte menu is full of dishes that I am truly excited to offer my diners.

Martin's

A European-style restaurant on Duval Street offering German classics like schnitzel alongside refined dishes such as Beef Wellington and fresh local fish. The atmosphere is warm and refined, with indoor seating that feels intimate and timeless. It’s a long-standing favorite for diners seeking something slightly different from typical island fare.

The beef Wellington is a standout and a big reason people return. I’m also a fan of the grouper meunière, and I almost always order a schnitzel for the table with red cabbage—it’s meant to be shared. The menu feels refreshingly different for the island, shaped by the German heritage of owner and chef Martin. There’s a solid tapas selection—the scallops and bacon and baked brie are longtime favorites. The wine list is excellent.

The menu highlights seafood and refined preparations, making it a popular choice for romantic evenings and sunset dining.

Join them for lunch for a pleasant ocean view, or come for dinner just before sunset to catch the golden hour glow. Louie’s also has an after-deck bar right on the water, perfect for an afternoon cocktail and a chance to meet a few local characters.

Prime Steakhouse

A classic steakhouse focused on prime cuts, polished service, and a strong wine list. The dining room is refined and comfortable, appealing to guests who appreciate traditional steakhouse dining. It’s a reliable option for celebratory dinners and steak lovers.

Stick to the classics—I go for the oysters Rockefeller, shrimp cocktail, and the she-crab soup, then leave the choice of beef up to you. They do it right every time. Don’t overdo it on the sides—the portions are generous. Save room for the cheesecake of the week. If Pavel or Alex are on the floor, feel free to ask for them—we all worked together for years at Martin’s.

Antonia's Restaurant

An Italian favorite known for homemade pastas, traditional recipes, and a warm, refined setting. The menu emphasizes classic Italian flavors executed with care. Seating is indoors, in a cozy, inviting atmosphere well-suited for relaxed, unrushed dinners.

If they have the wagyu meatballs on special—yes. Don’t overlook the goat cheese soufflé. I especially love the fettuccine with prosciutto and peas in a cream sauce, but I order it over gnocchi instead of fettuccine.
